Surround Yourself With The Light

When the world feels heavy and dark, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

The headlines are filled with murder, hostile plans, perverted adults and abused children.

When it feels like there’s no going up from where we’re at, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

So many people are surviving to survive, putting one foot in front of the other.

When the state of the world is too overwhelming, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

Waking up to another shooting and more innocent lives lost, and you wonder if picking up your afternoon groceries will put an end to your own life.

When the news scares us into hiding, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

There’s a spiritual battle for our hearts and minds.  If we’re numb then we can’t stand up.

When depression hits and we find ourselves stuck, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

Distractions of all kinds fighting to keep us busy.  The hours and the lives of those around us quickly pass us by while we’re on our phones  mindlessly scrolling or zoning out on Netflix.

When our attention is being called in the wrong direction, robbing us of our calling, our family and our time, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

The burden feels too heavy so she pours herself another glass of wine.

When the self-soothing becomes self-destruction, we’ve got to surround ourselves with the light.

Start your day out in prayer.

Read your Bible.

Turn off the news.

Turn up the worship music as you praise the Lord.

Put down your phone.

Be present.

Get outside.

Stay connected to God.

Smile at a stranger.

Love one another.

Forgive.

Ask for forgiveness.

Be patient.

Be thankful.

Fill this world with as much goodness and beauty as you can and do it all in the name of Jesus.

Do all of these things and you will surround yourself with the light.

I was just resting in praying time this morning. My heart felt so broken by our world. So much pain, but God’s beauty surrounds us. I love this reminder that we must be in prayer first.
