Hey girlfriend…

friends

Welcome to The Filter Free Mom. I’m stepping out in faith to build a filter free community where we are real with one another. Where we let down the walls, and laugh in the face of stigmas. A community where we are honest about our struggles, because honestly, so many women and teen girls are walking around feeling alone in them.

Today, so many of us spend precious time on social media, and in many cases, these platforms have become necessary tools for everyday life. While I believe these sites can be used for good, I also think they’ve contributed to a culture of women who are afraid to present themselves as anything less than perfect.

This fear doesn’t just live online, but also carries over into our everyday, and the way we live in relationship with other women.

Ready for some good news? When we’re honest about the difficult parts of our lives, we begin to move out of bondage, and closer to freedom. For some this a testimony, for others it’s a situation they’re actively walking through.

Either way, tell your story, with all its messiness and all its redemption. Imperfection doesn’t make us failures, it makes us human, and desperately in need of a Savior.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“But he said to me, ” My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

And in Psalm 107:2

“Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story– those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.” Psalm 107:2

Why are we honest about the hard stuff? Because it connects us to one another. It helps us to realize we actually have more in common than not. When we’re honest with one another about how life is really going, we have the opportunity to give and receive support & prayer.

Likewise, when we share the ways in which God helped us through our storms; we can encourage other women through theirs, all while pointing them to Christ. When we tell of God’s goodness through impossible situations, we show other women that our overcoming is not by our own doing, but by God’s alone.

When we trust that God has a purpose for our lives, even in the messiness of it all, and when we move forward in the grace that has been offered for us, we can boldly take our pain and use it for good.

I hope that this space will be one of encouragement, as I touch on real topics of pain and suffering in my writing. I feel called to encourage women through life’s most difficult circumstances, because God has brought me through many of my own.

No matter what you’re going through, He is with you sweet sister! You are not alone!

In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.

Psalm 118:5-6
