Do The Next Right Thing

Hey! I wanted to check in with you…thought you might need it.

How ya doing these days? Because things are tough right now, know what I mean?

You’re probably exhausted and I do mean E X H A U S T E D.  I’m just guessing, because I feel it too.

do the next right thing

Maybe like me, you’ve managed to put on some clean(ish) clothes and your plan again is to just keep the kids alive.

Maybe it’s taking every bit of your strength to step outside, and get some sunshine.

Maybe you showered today, and it’s all you can do.

Some days are for surviving, and if the small stuff is all you‘ve got in you for today, that’s OKAY.

You know why? Because easy stuff is hard right now.

The news is draining.

The trenches feel like they just might swallow you alive.

The world feels like it’s crumbling.

The ‘to-do’ list is growing at a rapid speed.

The distractions pulling for your attention are endless, and everywhere.

You’re overwhelmed.

You’re worried.

You’re going through something that you’ve never been through before.

And you, like many, are up against so many decisions, in a time when there are NO GOOD CHOICES, and you just -C A N N O T- do it today.

Come close, weary one. I SEE YOU, and I need you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

When…

  • It all feels like too much.
  • Surviving is all you can do.
  • You can’t make one more decision.

Just do the next right thing.

do the next right thing

And if…

  • You realize that you can’t do this on your own.
  • You don’t know where your strength for tomorrow will come from.
  • You can’t handle the weight of it all for one more minute.

Just say, “Jesus”.

He’ll be there, walking beside you, offering the grace you need to make it through to tomorrow.

In fact, he’s already there.

do the next right thing

So, when you feel the weight of your burdens and it all feels like too much, just do the next right thing, but know that you aren’t doing it alone.

  1. When I was going through a difficult time several years ago, my sister said to me, “Do the next thing.” It kept me going because when I accomplished something, I would gain energy to do the next thing. This is especially true when you are grieving.

    1. Thanks for sharing that, Susan. Yes, sometimes this basic, simple practice of just focusing on the next step is all we can do and that’s okay. I agree with your point about grief. ❤️

  2. Great word. Love the end, “Just say Jesus!!”❤Elizabeth Elliot’s motto was similar and came from an old poem that just said “When you don’t know what to do, do the next thing.” Her encouragement was to not grow weary of doing good but to keep serving the Lord!!

    1. I love that, Arrica! Yes! Keep serving the Lord through it all. Thanks for sharing ❤️

There is power in the name of Jesus. I think we sometimes forget that. We get so caught up in what we are going through that we don’t call on the one who can fix it all. I’ve been guilty. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. Amen! There sure is and I think we’ve all been guilty of forgetting at times ❤️ Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts!

  4. When you’ve made some bad decisions and done the wrong thing then doing the next right thing can be a step toward healing.

    1. That’s very true and a very good point! 💕
